Looking for other Historical Data API?
Datalastic provides also vessel historical data API. With Vessel historical data API you can specify the ship and the time frame that you are interested in and the API response shows you all vessel activity during your selected timestamp.

What is Historical Location AIS Data API?
Ship historical tracking AIS data API allows you to select any location in the past and view all vessels that were recorded within your selected zone and timeframe. You can choose either an existing port and define the search radius around it or you can define the longitude and latitude of your search area.
After you request the report, and your request status is “Done” then you can access the report and all the vessels captured within the zone. You can find further instructions on how to create a historical location AIS data API report request in the API References.
Each historical location ship API response contains a list of vessels that matched the searched zone and timestamp with the following vessel data:
- vessel UUID (Universally Unique ID)
- longitude
- latitude
- last vessel position (the time when the ship data was reported)
- vessel speed
- ship course
- ship heading
- vessel navigational status
- vessel reported destination
- distance
What is the difference between Historical Ship API and Historical Location AIS API?
Historical Ship API searches for a specific vessel activity in the past. There you can define an MMSI or IMO number of your chosen vessel and the timestamp to see where the ship was during your time frame. You follow the vessel in the past and see its activities, location, speed, course, destination, and more.
Unlike Historical Ship API, Historical Location AIS API allows you to monitor a specific zone in the seas, oceans, or rivers and see all the vessels that passed through it within a certain time frame, then it gives you a report with a list of vessels that matched your criteria.

Database Requests Usage in Historical Location AIS Data API
Each subscription plan has a package with a different number of API calls. Each API call subtracts a certain number of points from your package. You can upgrade, downgrade or cancel the maritime API plan anytime you want.
In Historical Location AIS Data API, each vessel that you find in your report subtracts 1 point from your total package. For example, if you find 51 vessels in your historical API result report in the selected zone of your search, then 51 points will be deducted from your total package.
The maximum number of points to be deducted from Historical Location AIS Data API is 500. Even if you find 2000 vessels in your API report, only 500 will be deducted from your total subscription package.
