Lastly, a vessel that is “aground” is one that has run aground or become stranded on a beach or in shallow water. In this situation, the vessel cannot move under its own power and must take steps to free itself as soon as possible. During this time, the vessel must display the appropriate lights and shapes to indicate its status and alert other vessels to its presence and inability to maneuver.

Special navigational statutes of vessels:

In addition to these navigational statuses, there are also a number of special statuses that a vessel may have: such as “restricted in ability to maneuver” or “engaged in fishing.”

These special statuses have their own rules and requirements that must be followed in order to ensure the safe navigation of the vessel.

For example, a vessel that is restricted in its ability to maneuver may have to display additional lights or shapes to alert other vessels to its limited maneuverability.
