Nowadays, in the marine industry, due to the increase in consumer demands, it is necessary to take decisions quickly and make precise choices to stand out over competitors. All this relies on the maritime database benefits for the industry, such as assisting to improve sustainability, safety, logistics, and supply chain transparency.

Decision-makers need to be able to access reliable data in real-time and take actions based on it.

Indeed, it helps to maximize the seafaring operations in the marine industry.

In the article below, we will cover all the important points about vessel and maritime databases.

What’s the maritime database?

The maritime database is an excel list that contains information about the marine industry including all the data about ships and other maritime vessels or ports. Indeed, the data differentiate based on the user requirements, it would be basic details about the vessel or the vessel different port calls, port names, country codes data, vessel type, or MMSI number.

Why is the maritime database important?

Decision Makers or developers always rely on the maritime database, is it a reference for them due to the information collected which we will mention later in the article. The maritime database offers global coverage on tens of different vessels or types and subtypes. As a result, this helps the e-commerce companies and shipping in the maritime industry to improve performance, predict and address problems and prevent accidents.

How is the maritime database created?

The maritime database covers all the important details about the vessel but how do all those data get collected?  Since all the sailors equip their vessels with devices using devices to send AIS (Automatic Identification System) data which travel later to AIS stations through the Terrestrial.
As the fastest-growing maritime data provider, our job is to store the maritime data from AIS stations in our databases using the ETL data process (Extract Transform Load) data handling process. As a result, we create a large database where you can find data that covers :
  • 750000 Vessels
  • 21000 Marine Ports
  • Global Maritime Coverage
  • 306 Vessel types
Moreover, we include characteristics, ownerships, specifications, and much more to make it possible for our clients to filter the data based on the exact parameter they require.

What Are the different forms of maritime database?

As we mentioned before, there are categories for the maritime database. You can access raw data in a form of an API or you can have an access to a CSV maritime database file which you can open and access via standard Mircosoft Excel. In this article, we cover the excel databases.
