Ship Sea Route API for Maritime Route Planning
Need to find the best path from one port to another? Or from a precise coordinate at sea to a port halfway across the globe? The Global Ship Sea Route API makes that simple, fast, and reliable.
Whether you’re tracking container ships or planning full voyages, this API helps maritime companies calculate optimized sea routes with precision and flexibility.
What Is the Sea Route API?
The Sea Route API allows you to calculate the maritime route between two points on the globe, either between ports or between specific geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude). This makes it a powerful tool for ship tracking, maritime logistics, and operational planning.
Coordinates (latitude & longitude)
Port identifiers like UUIDs or UNLOCODEs
This flexibility makes the API fit a wide range of maritime uses, from logistics and route planning to real-time fleet tracking.
Example Use Cases:
Logistics planning: Calculate optimal shipping distances between your departure port and the destination to estimate fuel cost or voyage time.
Port call predictions: Estimate when a vessel will reach a specific port based on current location and typical route.
Historical analysis: Recreate common trade routes between high-volume ports like Rotterdam (NLRTM) and Singapore (SGSIN).
How to Use It: Calculating a Ship Sea Route
To calculate a route, you need to provide the starting point and the destination point. The API accepts these parameters:
1. Option 1: By Coordinates:
lat_from, lon_from – Latitude and longitude of the origin pointlat_to, lon_to – Latitude and longitude of the destination point
2. Option 2: By Port Identifiers:
port_uuid_from, port_unlocode_from – Origin port UUID or UNLOCODEport_uuid_to, port_unlocode_to – Destination port UUID or UNLOCODE
Examples of Global Ship Route API Requests
1. Route Between Ports Using UNLOCODEs:

The API returns a clean GeoJSON response, which makes it easy to integrate into mapping tools and dashboards.
You can define the origin and destination using any combination of the following:
lat_from,lon_from— Start coordinateslat_to,lon_to— End coordinatesport_uuid_from,port_uuid_to— Port UUIDsport_unlocode_from,port_unlocode_to— Port UN/LOCODEs
You only need one origin and one destination, using any format.
Sample Global Ship Sea Route API Response:
The response includes three GeoJSON objects:
from– Starting point (port or coordinate)route– The LineString with all route coordinatesto– Ending point (port or coordinate)
